Hi! Thanks for stopping by! My name is Bobby Hood. I am a 39 year old father of two wonderful boys, Bailey age 11 and Brody 9. I began my fitness journey just a short time ago, starting in the fall of 2014. While taking my fitness journey, I also embarked on a journey to become debt free at the same time (except for our house). By discovering Beachbody coaching and Dave Ramsey, I was able to accomplish both!
In the summer of 2014 my family took a much needed vacation to Tampa, Florida. We had an action packed adventure lined up (on a budget). We visited family, saw some sea life in The Florida Aquarium, took a ride on a pirate ship and (eeeeeeeeeeeeeeek!!!) went to a few beaches.
I was embarrassed at the beach! I didn’t belong there! Forget that I’m fair-skinned. I had puny muscles and was busting out of the waistline! That was my WAKE UP CALL!
When we returned home, a good friend of mine invited me to her challenge group at just the right time. I didn’t know what a challenge group was; I didn’t know what to expect. I just knew I had to make a change, but I didn’t have a lot of time to do it in.
My Daily Routine
I ate like crap. My typical day went like this: stop and buy breakfast at McDonald’s for almost $6.00, or stop in the work cafeteria to get something for usually $3.65. Then 9:30 would roll around, and I would need a 20 oz. Mt. Dew. There’s another $1.50. Sometimes I would get a snickers bar in the morning too. So, there’s another $1.00. I could have spent $8.50 at this point in the day, BEFORE LUNCH! Of course I had to go out to eat to lunch, and that averaged around $10.00. You know there was another 20 oz. soda at lunch, with at least one refill. At 2:30 I had NO energy, and I was hungry again. Time for another 20 oz. Mt. Dew and a Snickers. $2.50. So, before I left work, I would have a total of 80 oz of Mt. Dew, 2 Snickers bars, and an unhealthy lunch for around $20.00.
Oh, did I mention we had over $7,000 in credit card debt? Huh, I wonder why.
My Mindset
I made excuses. I would start next week. I would start next month. I would start next season. I’m not wasting money. $20 a day isn’t bad. These are some of the excuses I would make.
The Invitation
I had asked my friend about T25 a few months ago. She knew that I had an interest. She was proud of her results, and loved the program. It just so happened that the month after I returned from Florida, the T25 Challenge Pack was on sale. What’s a challenge pack?? A challenge pack bundles a workout program with a one month supply of Shakeology. I didn’t need Shakeology. After all, isn’t it just another PROTEIN SHAKE? Well, I trusted my friend, stepped out in faith, and bought the challenge pack.
The Experience
So, when my package arrived in the mail, I had T25 in hand, Shakeology in the other hand, and with my motivated wife, we started. We were a bit confused on how to start properly. We didn’t know if when to eat what and when. We settled on having Shakeology for breakfast. I cut out ALL soda, and with the help of MyFitnessPal, I tracked my calories as closely as I could to get to 1600, since that was what T25 called for. And you know what? After cutting out soda, letting shakeology be one of my meals and with the help of MyFitnessPal, it was actually very easy to hit that target! We were relentless. Enter the challenge group. The challenge group is an online private group of people with the same goals, to get fit and healthy. We checked in DAILY with each other. We were led by a wonderful coach. We were faithful, and we had commitment. On evenings where one or both of us didn’t feel like working out, we remembered there was a group of people encouraging us AND counting on us to encourage them. After 60 days, we both finished T25. We then went straight into the 3rd month, and then completed that too! I’m so proud of the results that we got! I never expected to have such a wonderful turn around in just 90 days!
And oh, that “Just another protein shake” did WONDERS! It totally killed my cravings for soda and candy bars. It kept me full all morning. I had more energy. I didn’t have acid reflux at night anymore. So while Shakeology is $4.66 a shake, I’m SAVING $8.65 a day (and more)
I can 100% credit the turn around in our lifestyle to the challenge group process. It is true that Fitness + Nutrition + Support = Success! I believe in the model so much that I now lead challenge groups myself. I have had the privilege of leading 20 people to their health and fitness goals, and I look forward to the opportunity to lead hundreds more!
